Australian representative Princess Ibini signs on as tournament Ambassador

Six-time Australian international Princess Ibini has signed on as an ambassador for the African Cup NSW. 

“We are delighted and honoured to have Princess as an ambassador of the tournament considering her achievements in football” said Committee President, Bernard Muchemwa

“With her success at the national level and representing Australia internationally, Princess brings great pride to the African-Australian community and is breaking new ground for the next generation to follow.”

A former youth international with the Westfield Junior Matildas and Westfield Young Matildas, Ibini is only the second female footballer of African descent to represent Australia. 

Since coming onto the scene as 14-year-old, the dynamic forward has also played over 60 matches for Sydney FC in the Westfield W-League, including as a key member of their 2018/19 Westfield W-League Championship.    

“I am thrilled to be a part of the African Cup NSW, a tournament that showcases the best of our communities through football,” said Ibini. 

“Football has provided me with so many incredible opportunities and moments but more than anything, it has provided me with a sense community.  I am looking forward to continuing to help promote that togetherness.”

This weekend the 16 nations participating in the African Cup NSW 2020 will find out the group fate and schedule with the tournament draw on Saturday, 10 October 2020. 

The current nations for the 2020 tournament are (in alphabetical order); Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. 

The official hashtag of the tournament is #AfricanCupNSW.
